Aiming at WCAG 2.2 AA

Accessibility

What we have built in, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

  1. 01

    What we aim for

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is a target we work towards rather than a certification we hold — the site has not been through a formal third-party audit, and saying otherwise would be a claim we cannot stand behind.

  2. 02

    What is built in

Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and a skip link jumps past the navigation to the content. Focus is always visible, never removed. Colour is never the only way information is given — badges and statuses carry words as well. Text colours come from a single token file chosen for contrast, and the layout reflows down to a phone without a horizontal scroll. Images carry alternative text, and form fields carry real labels rather than placeholder text standing in for one.

  3. 03

    What we know is imperfect

The product filters on the catalogue page are a dense set of controls and are harder to work through on a screen reader than the rest of the site. Some product photographs carry alternative text written for a sighted reader rather than a descriptive one. Where a manufacturer supplies a PDF — a safety data sheet, an instruction leaflet — we pass it on as they wrote it, and we do not control whether it is tagged for a screen reader.

  4. 04

    Payment and accounts

Card fields at checkout are served by our payment provider inside the page, so their accessibility is theirs rather than ours. Pay by Bank sends you to your own bank’s site, which is likewise outside what we can fix. If either blocks you, tell us and we will take the order directly instead — that offer is not a workaround we resent, it is a route we are happy to use.

  5. 05

    Telling us something is wrong

Email [email protected] and describe what you were trying to do and what happened. You do not need to identify the standard it breaches or use any particular words. We will reply within one working day, tell you honestly whether it is something we can fix and when, and in the meantime help you do whatever it was you were trying to do.
